About Dun Huang Buddha Qigong

We are now teaching a new Qigong--Dunhuang Buddha Qigong. It was discovered in a cave in Northwest China, where it had been buried for safekeeping nearly a thousand years ago. It is a great way to begin or end your day! Here is some more information about it.

“The Method of Breath and Meditation,” (now known as Dunhuang Buddha Qigong), discovered in China’s Dunhuang caves, is more than nine hundred years old. Exploration of the cave documents by the Gansu research group has provided substantial original data for the research of Dunhuang Buddha Qigong. After extensive study of the method the researchers said, "We suggest that all practitioners of health practices, such as yoga, qigong, and meditation, see this source as the treasure that it is."

It is a Buddhist system, but it bears great similarity to the Taoist methods of qigong as well. This system of qigong contains valuable scientific knowledge of the human body from the three major systems of Buddhism, Taoism, and Traditional Chinese Medicine. It also has instructions for methods of cultivating oneself in relation to one’s outlook on life.

According to these historical documents the core of meditation is tranquility and adjustment of the thoughts and breath. The documents clearly reveal the theories and methods of longevity training and general health care. An analysis of physiological changes occurring after these qigong exercises has shown the following benefits:

• Increased immune response
• Prevention of blockage in the higher central nervous system
• Restoration of autonomic physiologic function
• Subjective and objective improvement in the mental state.

This method balances the circulation of vital energy (qi), strengthens health, and prolongs life.

We are delighted to have Dr. Leon Chen teaching Dun Huang Buddha Qigong. He has started classes in Lombard, and will be teaching in Chicago soon. More information and dates.
